Saturday, 31 July 2010 20:58

I am currently working on a new edition of 'Visual Basic.Net for Education' that is updated for Visual Basic.Net 2010.  It will replace 'Visual Basic.Net for Education' (which was written for VB.Net 2003) as well as 'Visual Basic.Net for Education: Express Edition' (which was written for the VB.Net 2005 Express Edition).  The later two editions will no longer be sold when the new edition becomes available.

I have started writing a VCE Software Development text for the new Study Design (2011 - 2014).  If you would like further details or to express an interest, please email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and I can place you on my list for future updates.  I hope to have promotional materials available in a month or so with preview content available in mid-year.

Update (31/7/10): I have almost finished writing and I am planning for the text to be available in November 2010.  It will be full colour, about 200 pages in size and will retail for around $50.  Questions for each chapter (as well as solutions) will be posted on this web-site for students to access.  The text will only be available directly from this web-site (and not from book-sellers).  More information will be available soon!

Andy Wells from BigPond GameArena recently came to Melbourne High School to interview my class about the Game Design class that I am running.  The course is based on XNA / C# and students are creating programs for the XBOX360.  It has been very successful and the students have enjoyed it thoroughly.  I have details of my experiences in creating and delivering the course in my blog.

If you would like to have a look at Andy's story, click this link.

New XNA resource PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 05 August 2009 20:08
I am starting to work on a new resource which should be available for the start of 2010.  The new resource will be based on C# / XNA - writing games for the XBOX360!  I have been using C# / XNA with my classes for over twelve months now and have found it to be terrific - although a little hard to grasp at first.  Hopefully my experiences teaching this will translate well to what I am writing and will provide an easy entry point for those wanting to code console quality games!
